Video: Rock music

Year 5 have started their topic of Music this week. We are looking at rock music and have been studying various rock bands and their songs. We have learnt all about how songs are constructed and are now able to keep time and copy other children’s rhythmic hand-clapping patterns.

We ended the session reading music and playing tunes on the glockenspiels… the children we’re amazing!

Crocodile egg experiment

On Friday, year 5 took part in an experiment looking into the effectiveness of Hydrogels. We submerged a crocodile egg in water and we”re going to measure it every day for a week to see just how much water the crocodile will absorb before it stops growing completely.

Some of the children have predicted a giant crocodile will emerge… Let’s hope not!

Adding sound to create atmosphere

During the last few Computing lessons with Mr Baddhan, Year 5 Kestrels have been using a new program called Audacity – a sound editing tool. It allows children to edit their recordings and then add sound effects.

The children recorded their suspense stories from a previous English lesson, and then added sound effects downloaded from a website called Sound Bible.

The children were also reminded about the importance of downloading copyrighted files from the internet. Always ask permission from the website or owner.

Here are some edited recordings.
