Year 5 have been busy investigating air resistance by designing a parachute. They had to consider the variable they wanted to test ie: material, shape of parachute, length of strings etc and then ensure they kept all the other variables the same. They then dropped their parachutes from the same height to see if their predictions were correct. Have a look at our fun videos and photos.
On Friday the children in year 5 learnt all about how objects have a mass and how this can be measured using a newton metre. They had various objects to weigh and recorded the mass in Newtons as well as the weight in kg. They were also able to spot the relationship between both the mass and the weight.
Year 5 have had a very interesting PSHE lesson looking at role models and deciding who they would consider as role models to them. We had some super suggestions from Captain Tom to Marcus Rashford. It was a very enjoyable lesson!
Another anti-bullying week completed at Bells Farm??
Earlier in the week, Mrs Calbreath asked the children to keep a note of any acts of kindness they carried out during the week…the results were lovely!
Some children made tea, others gave compliments to people they knew, some children helped out with their siblings by keeping them busy while Mum cooked tea or by reading to them at bedtime. Mason tried to make his own lunch but couldn’t find the ham. (well that’s his excuse anyway!)
This week, year 5 have had a computer lesson on online bullying. We discussed what it involves, watched a video explaining the dangers and made an anti cyber bullying paper chain. The children also watched the Digital Council’s assembly in the importance of following rules associated with the internet, in order to stay safe. They are such experts on the subject!
This week, year 5 decided to take a very positive attitude to tackling bullying and produced a Kindness Garden. This involved them finding pebbles in the school’s woodland walk, which they washed and painted. They then decorated them with extremely positive messages to make you smile and hopefully lift your spirits at this very strange time!
We do hope you get time to go and visit the garden if you are in school; it’s situated just outside Mrs Johnson’s classroom.
And remember… Kindness costs nothing!
The positive pebbles included…
“Keep it Kind”
“Kind is Key”
“Peace is Power”
“Kind is Love”
This week at Bells Farm, it’s Anti-Bullying Week. The children made some super anti-bullying badges and went on their break to show the rest of the school. We have discussed the importance of adopting an ‘anti-bullying Policy’, and what constitutes bullying. Were also busy making a kindness garden to display in school. Look out for the photos later in the week!
Year 5 have had a great 2 weeks designing and making Viking-style bags in D&T. They have all worked really hard on their sewing and have produced some excellent results. They can now do back stitch and over stitch really well.
Today year 5 have been looking at finding common factors of numbers. Firstly, they used counters to make arrays to establish which numbers could be considered factors. Then they did this for two numbers to spot the factors that were common to both.
